July 5th: "Airconditioning"

I had a great catch up visit with two very special friends in Bloomington today. One I know from my time as an AmeriCorps volunteer here in Illinois, the other worked with us at our volunteer location and threw a wonderful bridal shower for me in the spring of 1997. We had a great visit at a local restaurant. What a treat to have the gift of this time to be together in person.

While I was getting some good girlfriend time in, the kids went to see some movies. Erik took John to see the new Avatar Movie (they gave it a "C") and my mom took Sally to see Toy Story III (they gave it an "A" except for a slightly scary part in the middle). This was a nice reprieve from the muggy weather this afternoon.

In an effort to continue our day of airconditioning, we headed over to Children's Museum for the afternoon. It was fabulous! I was so impressed. A couple of the things that really stood out: a bike that you ride and next to you was another bike with a skeleton that rode with you so you could see where all the bones moved, a tractor and combine that you could sit in and in the driver's seat was a tv showing a video of what it looks like from that perch when you drive the machines, and a painting station where you can paint on a plexi-glass wall, then spray it down and squeegee it (a favorite activity for Sally).

After dinner, we took another swim in the pool where our Flat Friends kicked back and relaxed as well (too bad they didn't bring their swimming suits on this trip). Then, we went for ice cream in downtown Normal to complete the day.

Betsy turned four months old today, how did that happen?
