June 28th: "La Petite Roche"

After a small snafu with a hotel in Conway, AR, and a relocation to a new (and mold free) establishment late last night, we woke up refreshed and ready for a fun day in Arkansas.

I now have a favorite place we've stopped on our trip. The Heifer International Ranch. You may know of Heifer as the place that sends out the catalog at Christmastime where you can purchase chicks or sheep, etc... for families in other countries. If you aren't familiar with Heifer, the organization provides animals and agriculture education to families in poverty around the world. We had a really interesting tour at their ranch site. At this location they have over 1200 acres and 350 acres are used at any one time. They have all sorts of animals (water buffalo, camels, horse, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, cows, etc...). We were taken on a tour of their facility. They also keep bees and have a flourishing garden. All the food served in their cafteria comes from their ranch. There were a number of groups there while we were visiting. We were told the cafeteria can feed up to 300 people per day. I could go on and on, but I'll direct you to their website. After our time at Heifer, we went into downtown Little Rock. We ate lunch at the Riverfront Market and then walked to the river path to see "the little rock". It was little.

A full day in Little Rock led to a shorter drive this afternoon. We skirted Memphis and are staying just south of Memphis, now in Mississippi in a town called Olive Branch. We'll have a long day of driving tomorrow to get into Atlanta just prior to dinner time. We are looking forward to seeing Grandma Stella for dinner!
